Aloha! So excited to share our photo recap & itinerary from our 6 day trip to the island of Hawaii! Though we hadn't originally planned on moving cross-country literally days after our trip here (eek!), we were actually pretty thankful it happened that way since it gave us a much-needed break from reality. The Hawaii island had been on my bucket list for years! This place is packed with adventure & isn't your typical blogger destination like Maui or Oahu. Even though this island is the biggest, it's still relatively small. You can likely drive around the entire island in about day. Because we took a crazy amount of stops to eat, beach & take in the views, we only made it around two-thirds, just missing the most southern point. We started in Hilo, traveled our way north to Kohala, and ended our trip in Kona. If you're interested in booking a vaca here, I highly recommend renting a car & staying in these 3 areas as you drive across the island! And huge thank you to the Island of Hawai'i Visitors Bureau for giving us such an incredible opportunity to explore their island!
PACK THE ESSENTIALS
Okay, let's talk about what to bring. Depending on where you stay on the island, it could be damp & rainy (east side) or hot & breezy (west side). And if you want to explore all of Hawaii, definitely pack for both conditions. So I threw in an insane amount of tanks, tees, shorts & dresses. And I'd be lying if I told you I didn't pack a separate carry-on bag full of swimsuits & hats (don't judge haha). Bring a few layers- like a denim jacket & sweater. Sunscreen is obviously a must, but so is mosquito-repellent! Also don't forget water shoes- I know they aren't the coolest accessory, but they are perfect for slippery hikes & climbing on waterfall rocks, because you know you're going to test the limits to get that perfect shot. And stock up on some k-beauty masks for the plane! Seriously a lifesaver.
